Dicky Cheung Hasn’t Seen His Beijing-based Wife For 515 Days (But He Will After 21 Days Of Quarantine)

Hongkong singer Dicky Cheung and his wife, Chinese actress Jess Zhang, look like they've mastered the art of the LDR. The pair, who wed in 2007, have been living apart for close to two decades as he’s based in Hongkong while she lives in Beijing. Which also means they've been engaged in a Long Distance Relationship since they were dating.

Dicky has expressed that he didn’t want her to give up her life in Beijing for him. So their routine was to hop on a plane and see each other at least once every month as the two cities are about three hours away. However, these reunions were thwarted when COVID-19 froze all travel plans.

For the past two years, Dicky has chosen to live in Hongkong for personal reasons. He put his career on hold to care for his 81-year-old mother as her health has been on the decline since almost drowning in a hotel pool back in 2013.

Dicky is a very filial son.

In a nutshell, circumstance have been such that Dicky and Jess haven’t seen each other in over a year — 515 days, to be exact. Dicky updated his Weibo on Mar 10 with the good news that it wouldn't be much longer before he’s reunited with Jess. “I’m quarantining in Guangdong alone for 21 days. After that, I’ll be able to see the person I haven’t met for 515 days. It’s worth it!”

His reunion with Jess is definitely going to be a sweet one.

Netizens have congratulated him for finally being able to see his wife. One quipped, “Please post more updates on Weibo if you’re bored during quarantine!” There were some netizens who also wondered who would look after Dicky’s mum in his absence, but others retorted that it was “none of their business”, reminding them that Dicky is “a filial child who would definitely ensure that his mother’s welfare is taken care of.”
