Dicky Cheung's three reasons for TVB comeback
There are three reasons why Dicky Cheung decided to make his comeback with TVB after leaving the nest for such a long time.
As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who announced that he is making his return with a new TVB drama, "The Handsome Marshall", stated, "The first reason is because it is TVB's 50th anniversary. It is an important year. I started from here, and I thrived here. I am grateful to this alma mater of mine."
Secondly, said Dicky, he wanted to express his gratitude to the Hong Kong viewers for their support.
"Although it has been nearly 20 years since I last starred in a Hong Kong drama, I would still receive the biggest welcome from the audience whenever I come home for a visit. They would often ask me if I would shoot a Hong Kong drama again. So I am doing this for them," he pointed out.
Thirdly, Dicky stated that he wanted to do it for TVB Executive Catherine Tsang, who produced his 1992 drama, "Wong Fei Hung Returns".
"She is one of the most important women in my life. She saw me developed but never forced me to return. So when she made me an offer, I just have to accept it," he said.
The actor also stated that he would do anything for Catherine, and wouldn't care about any loss of profit that he might get from focusing on the drama for half a year, especially since it pays more to work in mainland China.
Dicky started with TVB back in the late 1980s. After a string of less-than-stellar dramas, his popularity skyrocketed with his brilliant portrayal of the Monkey King in the 1996 TVB drama, "Journey to the West".
However, the actor decided to expand his career to Taiwan and mainland China when some TVB producers allegedly ridiculed him and his worth as an actor. He went on to make more classic dramas including "Young Hero Fong Sai Yuk", "Chess Warriors", "Taiji Prodigy" and "Mr. Winner", and working with stars such as Ruby Lin, Li Bingbing, and Ren Quan.
